Starkstrom is committed to designing and producing specialised products for the operating room and critical care area that are not only highly effective, but also as energy-efficient as possible, supporting the NHS and healthcare sector as it strives to reduce its carbon footprint in line with government legislation.  This commitment is evident in both the products that form Starkstrom’s S-equiP solution, and the way the business is run.  Starkstrom is also formalising its established commitment by working towards ISO 14001 accreditations, which will maximise efficiency and benefit the environment and customers even further.

Three products groups from S-equiP that are particularly innovative in their energy-efficiency are the IPS (Isolated Power Supply) & UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply), LED operating lights, and VisionOR audiovisual platform.  The power supply systems and lights use less power and generate less heat, making them cheaper to run and better for the environment, and the UPS features on the Energy Technology List.  Starkstrom’s VisionOR solutions allow video-conferencing live from the operating room, facilitating both education and the sharing of expert advice and experience, without the need to travel.

The entire way Starkstrom operates is designed to maximize efficiency and minimize waste of any sort. The majority of equipment is manufactured and assembled in the UK in Leicester. This central location maximises travel efficiencies and reduces the company’s travel carbon footprint.  Unlike many companies, wherever possible, Starkstrom packages equipment for delivery in collapsible wooden boxing, which is then returned and reused.

Efficiency 2

Over the last 18 months, Starkstrom has invested £150k in new vehicles for its service fleet, upgrading to Euro 5 diesel engines and reducing carbon emissions.  The company has a large number of service personnel, and diligent route planning and tracking software, combined with carrying an extensive stock of spares on each van, ensures that the service fleet operates to maximum capacity, and travel distances and the accompanying pollution are kept to a minimum.  In each city the team undertakes service visits, it commits to meeting local emission regulations.
